1825-1884
Benanna Summers (née Golden) woman, was widowed at a young age, and supported her family.

Several original documents shed light on Benanna’s life. Benanna was baptised 17 January 1825 in the parish of Northrepps, daughter of John (a farmer) and Elizabeth Golden (NRO, PD 707/4).
She married Edmund Summers (a fish driver) from Overstrand in Northrepps on 12 January 1848 (NRO, PD 707/13).

Edmund died just two years later – he was buried on 21 June 1850 in Northrepps – leaving Benanna a widow. The 1851 Census (HO 107/1809/265/11) shows Benanna, aged 26, living in Overstrand farming 12 acres, with daughter Mary, aged 2, son Edmund, aged 22 months, and sister-in-law Ester, aged 15. The 1861 Census (RG9/1202/130/22) shows Benanna as a retired grocer still living in Overstrand, with Mary and Edmund at school. Ten years later (RG10/1797/63/14), she was living in Northrepps, still a retired grocer, with son Edmund, now aged 20, a carpenter. By the census of 1881 (RG11/1922/59/12), Benanna was living at Bulls Row, Northrepps, with nephew Maurice Wagg, and was working as a laundress. Benanna died in December 1884, and was buried in Northrepps on 11 December (NRO, PD 707/7).
