Gunhilde

Died 13 November 1002.

Traditionally thought to be the sister of Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark and daughter of Harald Bluetooth, Gunhilde was supposedly held hostage in England and may have been killed in Norwich.

It has been hypothesised that Sweyn wanted to avenge her death, and the wholesale killing of Danes ordered by Anglo Saxon King Aethelred the Unready  this was a motive for his invasion of England in 1003.
