Secondary School Workshops

The Education and Outreach Team works closely with schools to provide resources for pupils from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. Some of our workshops can be adapted to suite the needs of your pupils, please contact the Education and Outreach Team to discuss if you require us to modify a workshop or would like a topic not listed below.

Our school workshops are detailed below. Some of the workshops are available in the classroom and some at The Archive Centre, or a combination of the above. Please check individual sessions to see the options. Details of the different types of session are also provided. Please note, these sessions are run according to current government guidelines and in accordance with our COVID-19 risk assessment.

Delving into History

This workshop is aimed at year 7 and 8 pupils as a way of introducing them to primary sources. During this workshop pupils will find out what a document is and learn how we go about dating documents. They will also learn out to handle historical documents correctly before practicing their new found skills by studying some original documents relating to a topic of your choice.

Norfolk in the First World War

Pupils will use a range of documents to examine the case of Philip Hewetson, an officer killed in France in 1918. They will assess the reliability of different types of documents and look into why there are inconsistencies in how news of his Missing In Action and subsequent death were reported by the War Office, a fellow soldier and in the press.·
