1778-1819
First to be buried in the first private cemetery in England.
The Rosary Road Cemetery in Norwich was the first private cemetery in England. It was established on the broad principles of Christian equality in 1819 by Rev. Thomas Drummond, a Presbyterian Minister. Formerly market gardens, the original five acres purchased was divided into sections and separated by planting trees and shrubs giving an aura of quiet solitude.
Thomas Drummond’s wife Ann died in 1819 and hers appears as the first interment, her body have been re-interred from the Octagon Chapel in 1821.
